In a time when the act of reading is changing significantly, the physical book as a mechanism for reading, is being brought into question. My practice is concerned with the future and reality of reading, the book as reading machine; and is bound up with an (imagined) escape from the page.
I recently went on a weekend bookbinding course which taught me how to bind properly. We learnt coptic stitch, japanese stab binding, how to cover boards in book cloth, accordian books, lap joints, how to test paper grain, pamphlet stitch, the list goes on...
I am hoping this will feed back into my practice and I will be able to create more books using these techniques.
